Case of Basilysis

چکیده
Two years ago I laid before the Society a suggestion for facilitating the perforation and comminution of the foetal head in cases of contracted pelvis where it was impossible to extract a living child at term. The basilyst, the simple instrument which I subsequently showed to the Society, was intended first to be used for perforating the vault of the skull, and then to be passed on so as to perforate and break up the more unyielding bones of the base (see Fig. 1).

The problem how best to comminute the foetal head is not yet solved. It is not to be reckoned among the problems of prime importance in obstetrics that wait their solution. Improved hygienic conditions have been lessening the kinds of disease that lead to the pelvic deformities which formerly oftener necessitated the sacrifice of the child; whilst the induction of premature labour, improvements...
متن کاملA Comparison of Case-Control and Case-Only Designs to Investigate Gene-Environment Interactions Using Breast Cancer Data
Background: The traditional methods of studying the gene-environment interactions need a control group. However, the selection of an appropriate control group has been associated with problems. Therefore, new methods, such as case-only design, have been created to study such interactions. The objective of this study was to compare the case-only and case-control designs using data from patients ...
متن کاملA novel case of quartet tumor: meningioma, angiomyolipoma, ependymoma and sarcoma: report of a case and review of the literature
Multiple primary tumors in a single patient are relatively rare when four or more distinct lesions are considered. Herein, we report a case of woman with four different primary tumors: meningioma, renal angiomyolipoma, spinal ependymoma and high-grade soft tissue sarcoma. There was no family history and hereditary syndrome. The genetic analysis was completely normal. To best of our knowledge, t...
متن کاملApplication of Case I and Case II of Hill’s 1979 Yield Criterion to Predict FLD
Forming limit diagrams (FLDs) are calculated based on both the Marciniak and Kuczynski (M-K) model and the analysis proposed by Jones and Gillis (J-G). J-G analysis consisted of plastic deformation approximation by three deformation phases. These phases consisted of homogeneous deformation up to the maximum load (Phase I), deformation localization under constant load (phase II) and local necki...
